Ian Brown and John Squire in the days of the Stone Roses
Forgive us for having a bit of a nostalgic moment today, but we loved the news on Tuesday that The Stone Roses are reforming and now we've got wind of the exciting news that the tickets for the reunion tour are selling like hotcakes and have all but sold out with absolute record breaking speed! We thought this was excellent, and quickly flashed back to early ‘90’s in Manchester.

The Madchester scene which comprised of bands including but not only; New Order, the Stone Roses, Inspiral Carpets, the Happy Mondays/Black Grape, and on the dance music tip there was 808 State, A Guy Called Gerald, Black Box and lots of fun things.

The action mainly took place in a giant club called the Hacienda, if you want to find out a bit more you should read the autobiography of Peter Hook from New Order or watch the excellent film with Steve Coogan, 24 Hour Party People with actors playing the main parts and then hilarious cameos from the actual protagonists of the era. VERY confusing.

Although, strictly speaking it was much more of an anti-fashion than a fashion moment, it was very much characterised by a specific look. Comprising floppy hair (boys and girls) no high heels but Dr Martens or trainers, jeans, baggy t shirts with things like Smiley faces or band insignia on them, and patterned shirts under a waistcoat. Oh – and not forgetting a warm parker as it gets pretty cold in the queue for a taxi oop north!

Why not get kitted out in this tee shirt form Truffle Shuffle, or this cosy big winter parka from Quiksilver Women?
