Good afternoon little monsters! Is YOUR face on here? Lady Gaga has come up with a lovely way to show her appreciation of some of her most avid fans and disciples by making a dress out of the self-portraits that they sent in to her in the style of a Blue Peter competition. Apparently it is all in aid of a good cause too – the makeup brand M·A·C’s VIVA GLAM social awareness campaign.
Using the website VIVAGLAM.COM, the company harnessed the double army of Gaga’s little monsters and M·A·C fans to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS to support men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS globally. Participants contributed self-portraits, shared information about HIV/AIDS and encouraged friends to ‘live with passion and love with protection’ and pass this message on via their personal social networks.
Then, they gathered up all the entrants into a big pile and Gaga’s stylist friend and confidante, Nicola Formichetti, picked the winning images to incorporate in the design of The Masterpiece, a dress that Lady Gaga reveals in the film. (Not forgetting some extra material to wrap round her special stilt shoes) Now you can watch the film yourself - not only is it a creative and interactive project between Gaga and her admirers but a celebration of the success in fundraising that the VIVA GLAM project has achieved so far. Or, in the words of the Lady herself, ‘The M·A·C AIDS Fund has raised $224 [£142] million to date. Go out and buy a lipstick for your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your mom or your sister - $26 [£14] million to go, little monsters!’
You heard her!
