Faux Fo' reals
Amazing: The toilet seat/fallopian tube hat that Princess Beatrice wore to the Royal wedding this April has undoubtedly been one of the most bonkers accessories to come out of 2011 – and we shouldn't forget that this is a year in which the Olsen’s $39,000 backpack has been selling like hot cakes. Well, as with all the best items of high-end fashion, the Philip Treacy designed original has now spawned its very own cut price pastiche.
One enterprising company, Headline Costumes, is cashing in on Beatrice’s hat’s notoriety by creating an homage to said fascinator for Halloween. Priced at $35, the hat is perrrrfect for trick or treating, and is approximately 0.03% the final eBay price (£81,100) of the original (this is according to Grazia Daily’s maths, and therefore may or may not be an utterly inaccurate figure). However – we can say with certainty that it is much more affordable than the real deal.
Also, because presumably the hat doesn’t look nearly bonkers enough on its own, Headline Costumes has created a video to accompany the chapeau – and it involves a girl, dancing manically to a trance version of Elton John’s ‘Tiny Dancer’. In a park. In broad daylight.
Well, who are we to pour scorn on her (admittedly, lunatic) behaviour? Exactly. And even without the dancing, we are totally buying one of these for the Grazia Halloween shindig.
