There may be a lot more to life than being “really, really ridiculously good-looking” but it sure can’t hurt. When NEXT launched its model search earlier this year together with Grazia and Storm, competition organisers were inundated with scores of entries from bright young things all over the country. The competition generated a huge buzz in the media and on social networks (most notably when Roland from Belfast made his bid for victory) but at the end, after 20,000 entries and 1.9 million public votes, NEXT whittled down the competition to 10 finalists.
These ten aesthetically pleasing men and women then gathered in an East London photographic studio to throw shapes for photographer Mark Harrison. The genetically blessed crew had already been through a “gruelling” two day boot camp where they were made to strut their stuff in front of a formidable judging panel including Storm founder Sarah Doukas, Grazia’s fashion picture editor Marc Morgan, Next marketing director Christine Gerrard and Brazilian model
and face of Next, Emanuela de Paula.
The bootcamp lessons clearly paid off and the crew behaved like pros on the shoot, but eventually only two young hopefuls could be chosen as the overall winners: 20 year old fitness instructor Leonie Manners from Nottingham and 22 year old business graduate Juwon Abiola form London, whose prize will see them joining the likes of Kate Moss and Lily Cole on the books of Storm.
Check out the behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot and interviews with the winners and just remember, NEXT year, it could be you…….
