Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s the stellar trajectory of Miss Karlie Kloss, as she continues to dominate the fashion world with her panther-like stride and self-confident side smile. Still thought of by many as a ‘teen model’ due to her tender 19 years and penchant for sending home baked cookies to editors and designers (how cute!), Karlie has nonetheless shown a mature stamina this Fashion Month by appearing on runways in three of the four fashion cities, and by being the most sought-after model of Paris Fashion Week, beating supernovas such as Natalia Vodianova, Gisele Bundchen and Freja Baha Ericsson to the coveted opening and closing spots in 8 top fashion shows.
Lanvin, Jean Paul Gaultier, Gareth Pugh and Roland Mouret were amongst the designers who chose Karlie for the all-important spot of being either the opening mannequin or the closing flourish of their shows. In total, she brought her youthful swagger to fourteen Paris shows, and made an appearance at a mind-boggling 34 shows in all during the exhausting fashion month marathon. Imagine how much make up and hair spray that would entail!
She succeeds the top model throne from the fragrant and bushy-browed Arizona Muse, who enjoyed her moment in the runway spotlight last season with 16 opening and closing spots throughout fashion month.
And at the end of it all, Karlie certainly finished with a bang, bringing her signature cheeky expression to the finale of Dior by giving the cameras a flash of her bare bum through a sheer pink skirt. At the end of all that hard work, maybe she just felt she couldn’t be a**ed anymore.
