Over in Paris earlier this week, FROWers were treated to quite the surprise. No, we’re not harping on about Kanye West’s collection (again) or even those broken benches at Balenciaga – we’re talking about one catwalk cameo at Kenzo which had editors clutching their Blackberries in amazement.
As a brunette catwalker in a cobalt blue jumpsuit closed the show, whispers circulated that she was an uncanny Chloe-Sevigny-a-like. BUT WAIT! That IS Chloe Sevigny! But where are her signature blonde locks? And what the blazes is she doing OFF of the front row and ON the catwalk?! Earlier this year, the frequent FROW claimed, 'I hate going to fashion shows. I find them boring', so is this her way of spicing things up?
Let’s begin with the hair - our initial reaction being GULP. Despite her quirky style stuntwoman credentials, Chloe has always been beachy blonde, so you can’t blame us for being taken aback by the dramatic change. And let's be honest: teamed with straight dark brows, barely there make-up and what could be interpreted as a baggy boiler suit, she looks a tad mannish, no? Apparently the actress’ new ‘do is for TV drama 'Hit and Miss', in which she plays a contract killer and a pre-op transsexual. So that explains THAT.
But what of Chloe’s turn on the catwalk? Well, we hear it was a favour for Kenzo's new creative directors, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, aka: the founders of Opening Ceremony. This was Leon and Lim’s first collection for the French brand so naturally, they enlisted the help of their A-list bestie, La Sev, who designed her own OC range (you still with us?). Together, they’re a hipster trio not to be messed with and unsurprisingly, the fresh and fun spring / summer collection was a storming success.
So what with Chloe closing for Kenzo and Kate walking for Vuitton, we’ve spent the afternoon reminiscing about catwalk cameos gone by. Here are some of our faves but if you've got a suggestion, don't forget to pop it in the box below…
