Joanna Lumley, honey voiced actress and Grazia Daily's celebrity mum (she's not actually our mum, obviously, we just wish she was) has opened up to Woman & Home magazine about her style, saying 'when it comes to fashion, I know I look good in cheap clothes. I suit the high street, not designer fashion. I love what people might call mutton-dressed-as-lamb shops. I love layering clothes, like young girls wear. I like being experimental with fashion'
And she looks pretty good on it, we recks.
'The other day I put on a pair of old Jean Muir shorts I found at the back of the wardrobe and I felt fabulous. Mind you, nobody said anything about how I looked - not a compliment in sight - so maybe I didn't look that great. But, gosh, I felt fabulous' she said. We love three things about this: a) Joanna found a pair of Jean Muir shorts at the back of her wardrobe, b) she uses the words 'fabulous (twice) and 'gosh' (once) and c) nobody told her how great she looked in said shorts, but she didn't care.
In essence, we love what Joanna says - less playing buy the rules, more having fun with fashion. But we know that Joanna is a willowy figured, beautiful, confident woman of 65, whereas many women d'uncertain age don't have the confidence to go into Topshop and rifle through the rails to find something. Also, of course, we all know that there are some things in many highstreet shops that do NOT look good on women over the age of, say, 22, let alone 65. But hey, who cares; we love la Lumley. And we would totally have complimented her in those Jean Muir shorts.
