Everything is rosy here at Grazia Towers because we’ve just been reading through the Tumblr of the lovely Miss Charlotte Free and it’s something that’s warmed our fashion hearts.
For those of you that missed her (how so?) on the London catwalks this last week, we feel we have to fill you in. Charlotte Free is the grungy, LA born n’ bred model that you’ve seen tearing up the catwalks with her fuchsia pink hair and her stomping, glaring, don’t give a f&@k attitude. Standing at just 5’ 7” tall, she’s dwarfed by the rest of the catwalk models but what she lacks in height she more than makes up for in personality.
Vivienne Westwood was one of the first to book her back in February as a fresh-faced-but-flummoxing model (just how Viv likes ‘em), and she showed her appreciation this time around by dishing up some exuberant catwalk antics such as snarling at the crowd and pulling unusual faces which no doubt pleased the Dame.
At Louise Gray she startled audience members and other po’ faced models by doing a footballer-style celebration as the models all filed off the catwalk at the end of the show.
Roksanda Illincic provided the most arresting shot of her all week, as she became a magenta vision in head to toe shocking pink, bringing new meaning to tonal dressing. At Topshop the elfin beauty sloped around the catwalk like her mum had just told her to go and do her laundry, but she was still our favourite.
Freedom of expression is clearly something Miss Free takes very seriously, and her antics at Fashion Week – in a sea of expressionless android models – gave us heart. But it wasn’t until we stumbled upon her Tumblr that we really fell for her. Called Moonchild (because apparently she’s an alien who came here to help Planet Earth) the Tumblr is a platform for her to share all her wide and varied views (and believe us, she has lots). Amongst the things she HATES: animal abuse, people using her as ‘thinspiration’, try-hard hipsters, and Chris Brown for what he did to Rihanna, but she LOVES tree frogs, cats, and the hundreds of beautiful drawings her obsessed fans send to her. And there are literally hundreds. Check em out here – and the sweet little responses she posts to each one.
This is one bad-ass model with more than enough personality to make up for years of dead eyes on the catwalks, and far from being thinspiration she is the inspiration for a whole new beauty look here in Grazia HQ. We’re looking longingly at the bottle of bleach… the future’s bright.
