Stefano Pilati’s best work for YSL always captures that same feeling of money. The elegant separates, tailoring and split flowing skirts and frocks all have a simplicity, but at the same time, a richness to them. Even in photographs, you can tell that the fabric is sumptuous in it’s very warp and weft; you can tell from the way it hangs. The sex appeal is implicit, rather than explicit – in the flash of bronzed thigh or the skin of the wrist under the cuff – just like the Seventies swoop of fringe over Raquel Zimmerman’s eye in this captivating vid for the brand’s A/W ’11 campaign, shot by Inez and Vinoodh in an appropriately decadent Manhattan apartment with a nighttime view over the city. Raquel smoulders away as the outfits and poses change in double time to the pulsing beat of LCD Soundsystem. Verdict: lush.
