Sweet Smelling Shoes? Yes Please!

10 September 2011

Eating and shoes are two of our favourite things here at Grazia so edible shoes are right up our street. Well, they're not exactly edible but they do smell good enough to eat and they're pretty delicious to look at! Not only that, but Melissa shoes managed to get Vivienne Westwood and Jean Paul Gaultier to design ranges for them, as well as Barbie and Disney! Nice.

For S/S'12 Melissa are collaborating with none other than Gareth Pugh and there's a bit of Jason Wu action going on too. Wu has even included a specially designed sock line that features a printed lace motif that make the shoes beautiful made inside and out.

Jessie J, Katy Perry, Kate Moss, Dita Von Teese, Anne Hathaway and even Katie Holmes have been seen out and about wearing Melissa's which are good for the sole as well as the soul (geddit?). They're eco friendly and made from a recyclable, non-toxic type of plastic so you can be smug in the knowledge that you've helped the planet. On top of this, Melissa is known for fair trade practices and for zero production waste, which can only be a good thing right?

So what's the deal with the smell in all the shoes? Well, apparently shoes are injected with the "bubblegum smell" during the moulding process because this smell conjures childhood memories for all Melissa wearers! Hmmmm, I guess it's better than potatoes or popcorn… What smell would you inject if you had a choice?!

They're campaigns are heart-warming and the most recent sees the people of Brazil (from where the brand hails) building a moving collage made from Post-It's. Sweet!

While you can get Melissa shoes online and from lots of our favourite stores, if you're around Dublin over the next couple of weeks pop into BT2 where you can see their first ever Irish pop-up store.
