We already know London is the world's favourite fashion capital thanks to the formidable fash force of Alexander McQueen + Kate Middleton on the Royal Wedding Day. And now it’s been revealed the Duchess of Cambridge's bridal gown has given our fair city its biggest summer hit by attracting a record number of visitors to Buckingham Palace. Woo, the Middleton effect strikes again!
The spectacular Sarah Burton creation, which is on display at the palace, has attracted more than 354,000 visitors, including Kate herself who popped along with granny-in-law The Queen before the exhibition opened on July 23. And although HRH was perturbed by the horribly ‘creepy’ headless mannequin, that’s not gonna stop the 500,000+ fans who are still expected to pay a visit before the doors close on October 3.
‘This year has been our highest year to date,’ a spokesperson for the Royal Collection told the Daily Express. ‘The wedding dress has proved very popular.’ Hmm, funny that.
But it's not just the Middleton effect that's bringing in the crowds. You'll remember the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition exceeded all expectations by pulling in 661,509 fash fans during it's three-month run in New York, making it the MET’s most successful event EVER. And fingers crossed another wave of McQueen mania will be hitting our shores if, or rather WHEN, the exhibition arrives in London.
Which is why Middy and McQueen is a winning combination, one that Kate likes to bolster with her fashion choices. Long may it continue!
