Louis Vuitton To Stage Marc Jacobs Retrospective!

30 August 2011

Yes, we know - will he, won't he, if not him then who....the Marc Jacobs at Dior guessing game is getting a bit tiring now and everyone chez Grazia Daily would very much like to know now what's going on, Monsieur Arnault (oh la la, that rhymes!) but it seems unlikely a definite answer will be given before Fashion Week hits Paris. And, excuse our naiveté but remember when a certain Riccardo Tisci was considered a shoo-in for the design role of all design roles? Whatever happened to that? Anyway, now there's another small piece of juicy news to add to the mix so here it goes *deep breath*...

WWD is reporting that Louis Vuitton - Marc's current home, if you've forgotten already! - is set to reveal a major retrospective exhibition during Milan Fashion Week as a tribute to the brand's Artistic Director - aka Marc Jacobs. The occasion? The newly expanded Louis Vuitton store on Milan's Via Montenapoleone, which according to the report is, 'slated to be unveiled Sept. 21, the revamped store by architect Peter Marino is to feature Vuitton's first "travel room" in Europe — dedicated to luggage and travel accessories — and exclusive made-to-order services for men's shoes and women's handbags'. So, what about this *ahem* intriguingly timed retrospective, then? It will be curated by Marc's longtime collaborator and Louis Vuitton stylist Katie Grand and will feature the Love editor's edit of more than 70 ready-to-wear seasons under Jacobs. Let's not forget that Marc took the helm at Louis Vuitton in 1997 and that, readers, is a loooong time in fashionland! Here's our look back at Vuitton's Jacobs years and nooo, this isn't a retrospective because Mr Jacobs is still at LV and no official announcement is expected at Dior anytime soon and we just needed an excuse to take a stroll down memory lane so make yourselves a cup of tea, put your feet up (or not if you're at work) and look through our gallery.
