If you've picked up the latest issue of Grazia, you'll know Fash Land is in the midst of a Great Kate Debate. To summarise, the Duchess of Cambridge has been panned for her perpetual attachment to sleek shifts and brocade coats, winning her more yawns than hurrahs from some style watchers. Is Kate’s Kit too ordinary (read: boresville) for a Princess with the fashion world at her nude-courts-clad feet? One thing's for sure, we'd LOVE to see her glammed-up and swathed in something dramatic, something silky, something seductive. Something, in fact, like this:
Admittedly, sprawling seductively across a fancy rug isn't standard royal etiquette, but this is not an entirely inappropriate, or indeed improbable, stance for our K-Middy. Because the above brunette beauty is no Hollywood starlet or catwalking model - it is indeed Kate’s princessy counterpart, Charlotte Casiraghi.
Err, who knew the fourth in line to Monaco’s throne was so ruddy gorgeous?! Landing the much-coveted spot on the cover of French Vogue’s September issue, shot through Mario Testino’s legendary lens, Charlotte oozes Princess perfection. Hopping from her glossy horse and into a grand hallway, the 25-year-old strikes a confident pose in a scarlet floor-length gown.
And here she is sweeping through a lush garden, Florence Welch stylee, covered in floral plumes and layers of cobalt blue chiffon. And is that the same glitzy Balmain mini-dress Leighton Meester wore to the MTV Awards? Yes, we believe it is.
And let's not overlook those sexy tousled locks and smoky eyes. How we swoon to see such a refreshing rough-around-the-edges look – the very same that Emmanuelle Alt, the magazine’s new editor, is famous for. Yup, there ain't nothing ordinary about this royal.
But, of course, the bee-stung-lipped stunner is well known for her fashion forwardness. Not only is Charlotte the equestrian ambassador for Gucci and the co-founder of Ever Manifesto (a magazine that melds fashion and environmentalism), but she's more likely to be found on Paris Fashion Week’s FROWs alongside Kate Moss and YSL's Stefano Pilati, rather than sitting centre court at Wimbledon. Oh, and did we mention her grandmother is Grace Kelly? >sigh<
What’s more, rather than jaunty fascinators and outfit repetitions for her relatives’ nupitals, Charlotte’s not afraid of high-end elegance. At the Royal Monaco wedding earlier this year, she wore a pretty pink Chanel Couture tiered frock – the very same that can be found in Diane Kruger’s wardrobe. We also donned our hats to see her bravely sporting Gucci’s vibrant colour blocking S/S ’11 collection, as well as a gold-embellished jumpsuit previously worn by daring diva J-Lo.
Granted, we’re not expecting to see K-Mid sporting an abs-baring Emilio Pucci number any time soon, but perhaps someone could send DoC a copy of Vogue Paris as, y’know, style stimulus? Baby steps, people.
