OOH! Is Christina Ricci the new Joan Holloway?

15 August 2011

The sky blue uniforms, the pristine white gloves, the perfectly-coiffed hair under perky hats – the Pan Am uniform is famous for being unashamedly fox-tastic. So how excited are we to be transported back to the swinging Sixties when Pan American World Airways was the biggest name in the air travel business and trolley dollies were the height of glamour? Extremely doesn’t even begin to cover it. The ABC drama is set to err, land in a matter of months and we’re bracing ourselves for another wave of retro fever to match the likes of Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire. Just think of the vintage planes! the suave pilots! and, OBVIOUSLY, the costumes!
Because we hear it’s not all about that iconic mile-high style. Indeed, Christina Ricci was snapped on the New York set looking divine in this floral frock with a perfectly on-trend hemline alongside Margot Robbie in a lady-like twinset. Step aside Joan Holloway and Betty Draper.

We’re reliably informed the dinky Ms Ricci is playing Maggie, a rebellious bohemian who turns into a buttoned-up professional so she can travel the world. And, of course, as a Pan Am stewardess, Maggie is one highly educated and cultured lady, not to mention utterly seductive. Watch her in action below with this sneak preview, and prepare to enter time-travel TV heaven…
