Wow. Kanye West is clearly NOT a believer in sitting around eating toast and watch daytime TV is he? Not content with his status as a global megastar in the world of rap, business impresario and vodka mogul, OR with his much anticipated foray into the world of ready-to-wear with designer Louise Goldin and Central Saint Martins tutor Louise Wilson as his personal teacher on his team. Apparently he also has a thing about girls’ shoes too . . . Intrigued? Then read on.
The shoe designer Giuseppe Zanotti has revealed that high-maintenance hip hopper Kanye ‘is always here in my factory. In the last three years, he has come here maybe every month and worked with the employees 10 to 12 hours a day,’ said Zanotti, who could be the man behind the shoes for Kanye’s hyped-up luxury women’s clothing debut at New York Fashion Week this September. ‘[Kanye] loves learning about shoes, both the design and construction, and we’ve tried to design something together,’ said Zanotti. ‘In a couple of months, he could have his own special collection out.’ The jury is still waaaaay out on this one. On the one hand, Kanye does seem to be really doing his homework when it comes to this fashion-designer lark. On the other hand, we all recall SJP protesting about how technical the nature of her job at Halston Heritage was – and look how that ended.
Oh Kanye. Meanwhile, reports from this weekend’s Big Chill Festival, where Mr West was the star turn, suggest he has picked up more than one fashion designer habit – massive tantrums. To those who would say his emotional outbursts and walk-off sulks are nothing new – we wonder if he has been sampling his own stiletto wares and therefore the unbearable toe-pinch has left him more than a little out of sorts? Or maybe it’s working those 12 hour days on top of touring. He could just be over tired, the poor lamb. Whatever it is - we promise not to rest till we get to the bottom of this conundrum.
