Elle, with big sister Dakota, meets Anna Wintour at the Met Ball
You may have noticed that Grazia Daily has somewhat of a soft spot for the new breed of Chadults. From Hailee Steinfeld as Miuccia's muse to Chloe Moretz working Carven to Willow Smith getting funky in McQueen, we love watching Hollywood's pre-teens taking over Planet Fashion.
And, of course, there’s Elle Fanning. The cute-as-a-button actress has posed up a storm for hip-kids-in-NYC Marc Jacobs and Rodarte as well as working with genius director/style maven Sofia Coppola, all by the tender age of 13. Gosh, we feel old.
Anyway. As we’ve already noted, Elle is the current cover star of Love Issue Six for which Mert and Marcus snapped her wearing white lace Chanel, Victorian stylee, accessorised with tears rolling down her rosy cheeks. Her Lolita look was enough to warm our fashion hearts, but that was before we’d read the accompanying interview, which, having just done so, has well and truly tipped us into girl crush territory. Is that creepy? Probably, but we just don’t care.
Take this Little Miss Fanning quote for example: ‘I live for fashion. I know all the collections by heart. I know all the models’ names… When I see someone wearing something I’m like, “spring/summer 2007?” I recognize it straight away.’ Oh, could we love her more?
Apparently yes, because then: ‘I love Alexa Chung…I think we have similar taste. She is my fashion icon. I love that four-year-old look she wears. I like high-waisted trousers. I’m working quite a Virgin Suicides look at the moment. She does that. I like the way she’ll mix a dress and men’s shoes, because I live in men’s shoes. I’ll wear Docs or brogues with a really nice dress.’ Ah yes, we see:
Now, the idea of La Chung as a style icon is nothing new, but what enthralls us is that this teeny tween, who we've thus far viewed as a sugary sweet dresser, is actually SO fashwan-y that she’s already following in Alexa's sartorial swoops.
And you know what that means? It’s time to examine the evidence, people, because, well, it seems like the logical thing to do and not at all because we like to while away a Wednesday looking through pretty pictures…ahem.
So don't forget to peruse our gallery below then wade in with your verdict: is Ms Fanning doing our Chungers proud? You decide!
