On The A/W'11 Campaign Trail: Alexander McQueen's savage beauty

02 August 2011

It's definitely Alexander McQueen's week. After the impressive news that the 'Savage Beauty' exhibition dedicated to the late designer’s work broke records for a fashion exhibition, now the house's A/W’11 campaign has landed to nail another triumph. LOOK:

Shot by David Sims, Raquel Zimmermann takes centre stage wearing the creations from Sarah Burton’s second solo collection for the brand and like the theme of her Paris Fashion Week show —‘The Ice Queen and her court’ — the campaign has a chilling edge. Take this structured frock framed by rays of sunshine bursting out from behind fluffy clouds in true marvelous-but-menacing McQueen style...

...OR Zimmermann working an extravagant number not unlike the one Daphne Guinness wore to this year’s Met Ball (and famously donned in a shop window). The dropped hem bodice erupts into a froth of organza to match the exploding skies behind it. Magical.

And finally, we’ve been treated to a much darker shot showing the supermodel ominously clambering through black cliffs wearing clompy boots and a furry hood much like Prada’s other-worldly creatures which got our spines tingling yesterday. Savage beauty, indeed.
