Portrait by Brian Jankic backstage at a shoot for Vogue Hommes Japan and China Modern Weekly
In a chatty interview with Milk blog via Fashionologie Nicola Formichetti, who is snapping at Karl Lagerfeld’s heels in terms of being the most booked-up/over-worked man in fashion, let slip a rather interesting piece of information.
In a breathless round-up by the super stylist of what he’s up to THIS WEEK, he said;
‘I can tell you this, the theme for Vogue Hommes Japan [editorial shoot] was freedom fighters, Greek gods meet boxers, and for Modern China Weekly I wanted to present 12 young designers from China, which I will be showcasing in my pop-up store NICOLA’s in New York from September 8 – 21 on 57 Walker Street in Tribeca. I will have cool stuff from Japan, young designers, Uniqlo, a performance space. As well as creations that I did for Mugler, Lady Gaga, etc.. ‘
He THEN happened to let slip that ‘Also I’m launching my own brand next year, so there will be a sneak preview of what’s coming up in the future for that. So please come and visit me. I will be in and out of the store all the time.’
Eep! Are you reading this in New York? If so, you need to put the second week of September in your diary and make it down to Tribeca to get a heads-up on the mysterious sounding project!
In the meantime we’re prepared to hazard a guess that it’ll be more of a Nineties grunge, Courtney Love, crucifixes and Doc Martens vibe than the high octane, ‘80’s power glamour of his range for Mugler, AND, when we cast our minds back to his many kookily brilliant shoots for DAZED & CONFUSED over the years, we wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a bit of headgear or face furniture either!
