So . . . after the news at the end of last week confirmed that both Sarah Jessica Parker and her Hollywood businessman backer, Harvey Weinstein, have left Haslton, now we know that Marios Schwab, the London-based designer who was creating the mainline for the house, will not be creating any further collections. The entire Halston line is being discontinued (the one designed by Marios, and sold at a higher price point than Halston Heritage) while the Halston Heritage brand; the one that SJP WAS working for - will carry on.

Who the designer will be, we just don’t know. The two behind-the-scenes figures are Richard Kaye, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Hilco Trading, which owns the fashion brand, and has so far been pouring in cash, AND a man called Ben Malka, who is president of BCBG Max Azria Group, and who is rumoured to have been head hunted by Hilco to rectify the chaotic situation. (Malka himself has denied that he’s working at Halston)
Oh dear. We thought both lines Halston Heritage AND the Marios Schwab-designed first line were lovely. We hope they don’t die out altogether. The founder of the House, Roy Halston Frowick enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame back in the Seventies and then subsequent drug-fuelled downfall, and eventually ended being fired from the company of his own name in the ‘80s before dying in 1990 of Cancer and HIV. He was surrounded by his family as nearly all his glamorous New York type friends were too busy to come and see him. We hope there isn’t a funny curse on the whole brand. . . .more news as we get it!
