Anna Wintour gets a Legion d’Honneur in PARIS!

07 July 2011

Anna Wintour has been called many things in her time, and now she can add another title to her various sobriquets; since she has just been decorated in Paris by French President, Nicholas Sarkozy, with the Legion d’Honneur, the French equivalent of a knighthood. Although we are not 100% sure how to translate this, we are going with LADY Wintour. Congratulations indeed. Not a lot of people know this, but British-born Wintour actually has an Order of the British Empire (OBE) under her Chanel belt already. Fancy that!

The Lady herself was absolutely resplendent in a Chanel couture suit quite literally hot off the catwalk from the Chanel show the night before. (unless they made an spare one. In fact, they probably did.) Its creator, Monsieur Karl Lagerfeld, had this to say about the ceremony – ‘We had this very nice cocktail, where Anna made a very funny speech,’ said Lagerfeld. If you say so Karl. Among the revellers at her ceremony and “cocktail” were Bernard Arnault, Karl Lagerfeld, Stefano Pilati, Donatella Versace, Tommy Hilfiger, Alber Elbaz, Franca Sozzani and Riccardo Tisci, who all assembled at the Élysée Palace. Goodness. I hope they had tight security. If anything had happened to the building there wouldn’t BE any top fashion bosses left!
