Balenciaga's A/W '11 campaign: shot in HOGWARTS?

06 July 2011

Balenciaga’s new campaign is out today, and what do we think? We love it. We never needed much convincing when we saw the futuristic fabrics and cape-like jackets of the A/W ’11 collection, so we were excited to see the pics, starring models including Julia Nobis and Liisa Winkler.

In order to style it up, it looks like the Parisian gang have been taking inspiration from the biggest film to come out (later this week) – the last ever Harry Potter episode, entitled Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2. Well, at least one of the settings closely resembles Hogwarts, complete with wisps of smoke in the air, no doubt from some horrifying mythical beasts just out of shot. Great. The second pic was CLEARLY shot, by Steven Meisel, with styling by Marie Amélie Sauvé, in the school changing room where they get ready for Quidditch matches. What excellent synergy, or, some might say, a very weak link…

Oh yes and one more thing - you won’t have to run to the newsagents to have a look at it (as if you would do that anyway, seeing how we’ve put it up here!) Oh no, this season, Nicolas Ghesquière is taking the opportunity of their website re-launch on Monday to put it up for all online people  . .  the mags will just have to go without. Forward looking in more ways than one, that M. Ghesquiere!
