Congratulations to Belgian designer Anthony Vaccarello on winning this year’s ANDAM award! The prize is a hotly coveted one in the world of fashion, constituting 200,000 euros plus 10,000 euros worth of Swarovski crystals to use on his Spring 2012 collection (We anticipate some VERY sparkly frocks then). Anthony only showed his first collection this year at Paris Fashion week, after several years of working under Karl Lagerfeld at Fendi.
As you would think, after an apprenticeship under Kaiser Karl, Anthony is a pretty slick operator. His A/W ’11 collection was a parade of slick black outfits, with various cutaway shapes and missing panels. For the show, which one of his fans, a certain Emmanuelle Alt was on the front row (she is also on the judging panel of ANDAM) he organized a dazzling light show as the backdrop to the outfits. For this he enlisted the specialist, Alex de Betak, who also produces shows for global brands like Dior. FANCY!
