Brace yourselves: Nicola Formichetti is set to thrust a new star into the galaxy of fashion after giving us Rico (creepily hot skeleton boy) and also, to an extent, the fierceness that is Lady Gaga. This time, Formichetti presents transgender singer Nomi Ruiz.
Ruiz is the lead singer of Brooklyn based hip hop trio ‘Jessica 6’, who provide some of the soundtrack to Formichetti’s (NSFW) Mugler menswear film. Nomi also makes a cameo in the flick – you’ll be able to tell, because she’s the only female – and he’s also styled her for a spread in V magazine, shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Nomi’s style is less hardcore than either Gaga or Rico (ie – no green hair or facial tattoos) but we heart her love of early 90s bodycon mini dresses with hookersih thigh boots a la Julia Roberts, clingy velvet that really-shouldn’t-work but does, and the super sharp silhouettes which Formichetti has made his signature at Mugler. We likey.
