So this came out of the blue: One of the most celebrated Italian labels of the 70s (along with Halston and Gucci, according to Sister Sledge) Fiorucci has joined the likes of Longchamp in recruiting a supermodel to design a limited range for the brand.
Naomi Campbell, it was announced yesterday, has signed up to design a range of jeans for the Italian label, following some buzz about the potential collab over the weekend. Naomi revealed that the collection will include jeans in four different cuts with exclusive washes, as well as a series of five T-shirts featuring Nazzle’s cover shoots for iD magazine.
Talking at the launch yesterday, Naomi compared denim to spaghetti, saying ‘Jeans are like pasta… you can interpret them differently each time and play with the accessories… wear them with flip-flops if you want comfort or heels if you want to look sexy. For the collection… I thought about what would enhance women [and] about what I liked’. Sounds promising! So could this mark the start of Campbell’s career as a designer? Only time will tell peeps…
