Mulberry: World domination now inevitable

Well – kinda. In the year that Mulberry celebrates its 40th Birthday, news comes to Grazia Daily that the iconic English label has recorded a ma-houssive 69% increase in revenues, taking them to £121.6 million. This translates into an almost impossibly impressive 358% increase in profit before tax, taking the total to £23.3 million, up from £5.1 million in 2010. We know! So many numbers our head hurts.

And how did they do it? Well, there was obviously a lot of strategic work and spreadsheet management, but the bit we are MOST interested in is the pretty clothes which the likes of Grazia Daily can‘t get enough of.  

Mulberry’s S/S ’12 pre-collection, released this week, is inspired by a 70s trip to the seaside, with faded denim and tan leather and just a hint of brownies and scouts uniforms. Only in less itchy fabric. There’s a hint of Carry On with donkey ride prints on summer weight sweat shirts and a little doggy top, and oversized smiley face print knits (check it out with more of our resort collection round-ups here).

Accessories wise, Mulbs have introduced two new families - Evelina and Effie. Evelina – a luxe, soft leather introduction to the Mulberry family, has a super luxe feel with an oversized logo plaque, whilst Effie fuses lots of classic Mulberry signatures with a blind embossed leather tree on the front of the leather tote, satchel and hobo.

Meanwhile, our good friend Alexa makes her debut in snake, and shoe-wise, 2012 sees Mulberry introduce a genius - and geniusly simple – built-in gel pad to all their shoes (Amazing!) in summer-tastic shades of grass green, candy pink and leopard print. We. Want. It. All. And THAT is why Mulberry is destined for world domination.
