From the happy news of Lily’s wedding to the sad announcement that supermodel turned chanteuse Karen Elson is to divorce from her rocker and professional enigma husband Jack White after six years of marriage. They took the charmingly unconventional step of throwing a pre-divorce party for their nearest and dearest to celebrate that fact that  ‘We feel so fortunate for the time we have shared and the time we will continue to spend both separately and together watching our children grow. In honour of that time shared, we are throwing a divorce party. An evening together in Nashville to re-affirm our friendship and celebrate the past and future with close friends and family.’ They are clear on the point that ‘We remain dear and trusted friends and co-parents to our wonderful children Scarlett (5) and Henry Lee (3).’

Grazia Daily take absolutely no pleasure in announcing this latest development at all. Karen and Jack have to be one of our all time favourite famous couples – she for introducing a witchy, gothic glamour into his aesthetic, starting in the Blue Orchid video, which they were shooting when they first met in 2005, while bandmate and former Mrs Jack White, Meg, drums demonically behind her kit, like the ghost of Rebecca in Daphne Du Maurier’s novel of the same name. For his part, he helped make her music career entirely credible, in fact jolly good, rather than the cringe-inducing efforts feared by us all when certain models try to make the transition from mere posing to actual performing. The news of the end of the marriage broke after a guest to the aforementioned party leaked the invite which you can see here.

Like their uber-cool counterparts on the other side of the Atlantic, Johnny and Vanessa, they were never a couple who sought out the limelight. In fact – the fact that they agreed to be photographed for US Vogue in 2010 was down to the fact that it may be their last/only chance to do it as a couple.  ‘When this [opportunity at Vogue] came about,’ Elson explained, ‘for whatever reason, he was sort of like, You know, this is going to be the only time we are ever, ever, ever going to do this, so it might as well be with the best people on the planet, it might as well be with Annie [Leibovitz] and Grace [Coddington], to get that one great image of the pair of us.’

We’re heartbroken.
