With over 2,000 stores across 5 continents (talk about world domination!), we knew that the Swarovski Fashionation party (the world’s No.1 bestselling jewellery brand dontcha know) hosted at the Palazzo Reale in Milan, was going to be a star-studded event and not to be missed. Crystal encrusted carpets and giant swan-shaped flower arrangements decorated the grand interior of the building that was previously home to the Italian government. Trapeze artists and tight-ropes balancing above crystal displays and the main bar, situated in a vast see-through marquee in the open courtyard, were just a taster of what was to come.
Supermodel Naomi Campbell hosted the night’s events that included a DJ set by singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor and her hubbie, a super energetic performance by Mika and his band (he later apologised for sweating so much but blamed the sparkle-tastic Swarovski encrusted shirt he was wearing under his jacket) and finally Skunk Anansie singer Skin taking over 500 guests, including Margherita Missoni, Ben Grimes and Erin O’Connor into the wee hours on the decks (a trip to Ibiza to see her play this summer is now top of our list of priorities).
But the highlight? Well, it has to be meeting creative director of Vogue Nippon, Anna dello Russo. Looking as fabulous as fabulous can be in a tight black appropriately crystal encrusted dress and a signature pill box hat, I cringingly asked to have my picture taken with her (evidence above) to which she replied ‘Of course, but we must go into the light! Let’s go into the light so we take a better picture!’ and after gushing how much she loved UK Grazia, I then told her how much I loved her (cringe I know) and then we waved goodbye. Did I tell her I was a fellow Russo and Italian from southern Italy? No, as I did think that would be verging on weird stalker style conversation and would leave that for our next encounter satisfied that I had just experienced my finest fashion moment ever!
