Wowsers! Summertime in London fashion terms means one big thing – and, no it’s not bikinis and kaftans (we wish). It’s graduate fashion show time! Soon Earl’s Court will open its massive space up to showcase the best of this year’s young design graduates, but yesterday saw the ritzy, glitzy catwalk show for the Royal College of Art’s fashion course. Brilliant alumni of this course include Erdem, Holly Fulton, and Burberry’s Christopher Bailey. But which of these graduates will join them in fashion’s hall of fame?
We spotted three areas of brilliance amongst the womenswear designers; texture clash – like this turquoise furry and silk satin combination by Amelie Marciasini, this sleek dress incorporating what we’re going to call ‘jumbo fringing’ by April Schmitz and this sleek maxi skirt topped off with what looks like a furry top made of sparkly lurex by Sayaka Kamakura. Fab.
Another theme was that of textile innovation, like this futuristic swimming outfit by Philipp Schueller, this laser-cut dress by Sarah Seaton-Burridge and this amazing-coloured raincoat by Itziar Vaquer!
Not to be missed either were the knitters – we particularly liked these looks by Hannah Buswell, Victoria Hill, and this Ruth Green.
Well done one and all!
