Is Diane von Furstenberg secretly working on kidswear for GAP?

01 June 2011

Rumours rumours rumours . . . Diane von Furstenberg is said to be working on a line of childrenswear for US retail giant, GAP. Oh ho ho! Does that sound like a good plan to you? Maybe there will be mini wrap dresses, and surely jolly prints will feature heavily? So far GAP themselves haven’t confirmed the news, but WWD, one of the most serious fashion publications there is seems confident that the stories are true, and that they have even seen the drawing boards.

We’re trying to visualise possible themes for the range, but Diane’s collections don’t lend themselves automatically to being worn by little people running around, getting on tricycles and eating spaghetti hoops on toast. (Mmm). She does love a colour splash of course, but her target market are wealthy, executive women. Not necessarily power suits but definitely very smart pieces, and a high proportion of eveningwear.

Who knows what will happen. Maybe she will rise to the challenge like Stella McCartney did with her brilliant military jackets. Her approach seemed to be; practical with a hint of dressing up box. So DVF will have to adapt her own taste for kids, not just produce wrap-over dresses in miniature!

Watch this space people – we will bring you more news when we get it!
