WATCH Sarah Jessica Parker NOT Playing Carrie Bradshaw!

31 May 2011

What's this? Has Carrie left Big to have babies with that bloke from Little Miss Sunshine?! No, no, dears – this is Sarah Jessica Parker in a NEW role for her latest film, I Don't Know How She Does It. And from the trailer [scroll down to watch], we've learnt SJP is playing a cake-baking, Mulberry bag-wheeling super-mom who's doing her best to excel at work while being a sexy-slash-considerate wife. Toootally different from Carrie, right?

Not only are we delighted to have La Parker back on the big screen – and if her swooshy Elie Saab appearance in Cannes is anything to go by, back on the world's red carpets too – we're also happy to see her playing one of literature's most-loved characters. Yes, peoples, Sarah Jessica's latest rom-com is based on the best selling novel by Allison Pearson, columnist for the Daily Telegraph, who also wrote the film's script. You'll remember the author recently joined us for the Grazia Book Club when she revealed that Nicole Kidman was originally considered for the lead role of Kate Reddy, but she 'had women write to me shouting that she wasn’t right because she was too cool.' We agree, SJP is far better at pulling off the adorably klutzy Kate.

We have just one tiny niggle. Call us silly, but we can't help but get the Bradshaw vibes, y'know? The voiceover is eerily familiar, as is all that running around NYC, and er, hang on a mo – is that Miranda Hobbs as the fiery-haired BFF? Oop, nope it's Christina Hendricks. Dammit, will we ever be able to see SJP as anything other than our beloved Carrie? Lord knows as the Creative Consultant of Halston Heritage, a mother of three, wife to Matthew Broderick, not to mention a bona fide style hero, she's already added several strings to her SATC bow (we don't know how she does it and all that). But what say you? Are you looking forward to seeing SJP playing a new role or will she forever be Carrie in our hearts? Watch the trailer below and let us know your thoughts...
