Iris Apfel, the octogenarian fashion maven turned accessories designer has responded to suspicions and complaints that she had copied another jeweller’s work (French jeweller Hanna Bernhard) in her very jazzy collection of accessories for the US retailer, Home Style Network (HSN) by agreeing to withdraw the controversial toucan brooch. Apparently, the mistake occurred because according to a spokesperson, ‘like many of her pieces, she purchased her toucan brooch from a flea market and believed it was a vintage piece.’ Since the outcry; ‘as we have discovered that this is not a vintage piece, the brooch will be removed from the collection.’

Since this is the third time we have covered the story, there is only one thing left to attempt on the subject – a pun involving toucans. When it comes to jewellery designing, two can have a liking for toucans, but two CAN’T both have them on sale when one has clearly ‘interpreted’ the first one. HA!
