We weren’t only lapping up the delights paraded on Chanel’s Cruise catwalk for Monsieur Lagerfeld’s magnificent show in sunny southern France yesterday (the eve of the Cannes Film Festival, dontcha know). In fact, the designer's FROW offered up more than enough glam garb to get us going before the festivities had even begun. Naturallement, the usual suspects didn't disappoint, from Alexa and Blake to Vanessa and Clemence, but what does this mean for us? It means a super-duper Best Dressed list, of course! Let’s get stuck in...
First on the agenda is Blake Lively. As the current “face” of the handbag line, not to mention Karl’s date to the Met Ball last week, she's officially at the top of the Chanel tree - and is it any wonder when she looks this smoking? The Gossip Girler sported a Spring 2008 Couture ensemble consisting of a twinkling sequinned jacket and shorter-than-short black tulip skirt - if we could wolf whistle, we would! But we can't. More leggy legs appeared on the adorbz Rachel Bilson who was back in her fave pair of leather shorts, topped off with a tres-Chanel embroidered top, sleek jacket and ladylike pointed heels. She’s like a Caroline Sieber mini-me, wouldn't you say?
Onto another corker from our Chungers who ditched her tomboy threads for a pink sleeveless dress from the S/S ‘11 catwalk, with a shredded hem and Lesage embroidery. Well, doesn't she look like a cutsey marshmellowed delight! And is the frock reminding anyone else of the collared confection she wore to the BFAs last year? Perhaps she's becoming rather fond of dressing 'like a five year old'... Meanwhile, Clemence Poesy looked like a French fancy herself thanks to a feathered tweed dress from the same collection. WE. LOVE. HER.
And more legs ahoy! Wonder Woman chic seems to be skyrocketing right now and the next campaigner (post Chezza Cole) is Poppy Delevigne who worked the trend Chanel-stylee thanks to her silver tweed shorts-slash-knickers accented by a lamé trim and a matching jacket. Oooh la la! Poppy seamlessly topped off the look with classic pumps, staple quilted bag, a metallic manicure and a slick of red lippy. And here’s Ms Sieber herself, looking delightfully bridal in a lacy ivory number, funked up by a pair of chunky black sandals. Very nicely done, non?
More brand ambassadors arrived in the shape of Vanessa Paradis and Anna Mouglais, who was last seen being smooched by Freja Beha. Hats off to both ladies for deciding to go the sophisticated route with subtle noir outfits, which perfectly complemented the elegant black-and-white pieces on the catwalk. Bon, bon, bon!
So now it’s over to you lot. Do you reckon Blake’s get-up is too saucy for an evening of Chanelegance on the French Riviera? Are Poppy’s wincingly teeny shorts a tad too tight for your liking? Get those claws out, kittens, and sound off in the comments box...
