Phillip Treacy defends Princesses’ wacky hats!

05 May 2011

After the post mortem of all the wedding guests fashion choices; both triumphs and faux pas, two people seemed to have come in for almost universal, umm, ribbing, shall we say? Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. When US blog, Hollywood Life, caught up with milliner to the Royals, Phillip Treacy at a recent event, he revealed his inspiration for the pair of nutty hats, and his personal response to the negative reaction.

‘My inspiration was beauty and elegance it’s a 21st century royal wedding,’ Philip told us at the screening hosted by designer Vera Wang. ‘No, they didn’t tell me [what they wanted] because I’ve known them for a long time and I wanted them to look gorgeous and beautiful. They trusted me to make them. Gorgeous and beautiful can be open to interpretation … I thought they looked gorgeous and beautiful. But no one is crying if anyone didn’t.’

Oh Phillip! Don’t you know the Royal motto when it comes to disasters, (as espoused by the lovely old Queen Mother) “Never complain, never explain” Dear oh dear.
