Even hours before the royal wedding (eep) the rumour mill is still white-hot with whodunnit updates. The latest being that Sarah Burton, Creative Director at McQueen, was seen entering the Goring hotel where Kate Middleton is staying the night before the wedding [above].
Now you might be thinking, "oh come on, is Burton really going to walk into Ms Middleton's hotel in front of hoards of the world's press with only a furry trapper hat to throw everyone off the scent after months of secrecy?". But eagle-eyed fashionistas quickly spotted Burton's seemingly signature accessories - the silver belt, flat pumps and cropped style of jeans. For goodness sake, does the hotel Kate chose not have a hidden entrance? Yesterday, Grazia Daily went home mightily impressed that the ultimate fashion secret had remained just that; right up to the day of the wedding. And yet overnight, it seems that everything's been revealed in one paparazzi shot.
But let's focus on the really joyous news! That Sarah Burton is somehow involved in what Kate Middleton will be wearing today!
The second rumour is equally intriguing. Supposedly, the dress IS an Alexander McQueen, but a VINTAGE design by the late designer himself.
Last night, Mark Jefferies, an entertainment reporter from The Daily Mirror tweeted "Sarah Burton seen in Goring hotel, but heard rumour from other journo design is by McQueen himself, so could be vintage or from his sketches!" And later, the Telegraph columnist Byrony Gordon tweeted: "Top fashion source just msged to confirm that [Jefferies's] tweet. Apparently the dress is a vintage McQueen design." Before adding "Apparently Sarah Burton is only doing the fitting, not actual design."
Alexander McQueen Autumn/Winter 2004
A VINTAGE royal wedding dress? We never saw that coming! What an amazing tribute to the late Alexander McQueen, especially just days before the exhibition to celebrate his life and work opens (on Monday, people!) with the annual Met Ball gala in New York.
Meanwhile, WWD speculates that "Burton could have designed Middleton’s dress for the evening gala Friday night for 600 people at Buckingham Palace".
One thing's for sure. If Kate Middleton has chosen vintage McQueen, Grazia Daily will be officially BESOTTED with the future Queen, (but please please please let it be for the wedding ceremony itself).
