What better way to celebrate our lovely First Lady’s 40th birthday than with a homage to her sartorial swishes? From high-street hits to high-end garb, striking prints to colour blocking, sleek shifts to kicky flares, Sam Cam’s done ‘em all. Let's take a closer look...
A member of the British Fashion Council and once the creative director for Smythson, Samantha's taste is spot-on and, since setting up home at 10 Downing Street, her wardrobe choices have gone from strength to strength. Think clean lines and feminine shapes, from the royal blue dress with satin belt that she wore on the night her hubby was elected to that black and white dress by London-based Emilia Wickstead, which Carla Bruni described as err, ‘bohemian’, and of course the brilliantly bold orange and blue number chosen to present her newborn daughter to the world. Is it any wonder she’s considered our Prime Minster’s ‘secret weapon’?
Aside from her political duties, Sam Cam is often commended for her easy sense of everyday style. Teaming a nude blouse with tailored black trousers or sporting a classic trench with a colour-popping frock, or even working of-the-moment flares with a modest navy coat, these no frills-no fuss ensembles are wearable and oh-so-achievable.
What's more, during her fourth pregnancy, the yummy mummy effortlessly mastered be-bumped chic thanks to a handful of swish maxi dresses for day and chic power dressing for night - we're talking this Vivienne Westwood LBD accessorised with a necklace by hip designer Holly Fulton. In fact, Sam became the first pregnant woman to make Vanity Fair's annual 'best-dressed' list. What an accolade!
Speaking of fancy evening soirees, here’s our Sam hosting a special reception to kick start London Fashion Week, and doesn’t she look blooming marvellous in a galaxy print skirt by Christopher Kane? Very on-trend, Mrs C! Onto another red carpet opportunity to champion hotter-than-hot Brit designers, this inky-hued Roksanda Ilincic dress teamed with jewellery by Mawi was sheer sophistication and guaranteed more headlines than her husband. Oh, and let’s not forget that chic grey polka-dot dress — £65 from Marks & Spencer, no less — worn with her beloved £29 Zara shoes.
And finally, we leave you with La Cam’s faultless holiday style. On a recent jaunt to Spain to begin her birthday celebrations, she looked fab in two gorgeous green frocks, keeping the accessories simple but functional - a skinny belt, black patent flats and a simple handbag to polish off the chicness.
So three cheers to you on your special day, Mrs Cameron and long may your fashionable ascent continue!
