Wedding Fever Heats Up at New York Bridal Week!

12 April 2011

'Dumdededum, dumdededdum!' With only three weeks to go until Wills and Kate's Big Day, wedding fever is reaching fever pitch here at Grazia HQ - and across the world, too. As we noted yesterday, our American chums are fabulously enthusiastic about riding the Royal Wedding wave and to add to their (and, obvs, our) hysteria, New York Bridal Week is underway in the Big Apple. Yes!

While fash-land watches more intensely than ever, designers including Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera have presented their Spring 2012 bridal collections, treating us to utterly feminine and frothy delights. Granted, bets are on Miss Middleton wearing a British designer come 29 April (pick up the new issue for deets on the latest contender in the Great Dress Mystery) but that doesn't mean we can't picture her in one – or two, or three! – of these beauties. Besides, groom or no groom, who needs an excuse to while away at least, ooh, sixty minutes cooing over wedding dresses? Well, exactly.

Let’s begin with Carolina Herrera’s brides who glided down the aisle catwalk surrounded by pretty white cherry blossoms. We’re loving the striking black accents on frou-frou skirts, accessorised by pink and noir belts and bouquets, while avant-garde colour-block bustles, complete with adorbz butterflies, also brought a refreshing edge to the traditional white-slash-ivory palette. ‘I love bridal shows because they are so full of hope, feeling and dreams,’ Herrera trilled. ‘The music is divine, the runway is covered with flowers and everyone is happy’ >wipes tear from eye<

Of course, us girlie girls can always rely on Marchesa to make our dress dreams come true so it comes as no surprise that the fashion house’s latest bridal offering is a breathtaking vision in white, with sheer, embroidered sleeves and delicate appliques on sleek trumpet silhouettes >swoon<

Meanwhile, Oscar de la Renta sent a whooping 37 gowns down his catwalk, complete with ruched bodices, youthful rose petals and cascading tulle a-plenty. There was even floral bikinis – yes, a bridal bikini! – worn under a silk caftan for the more um, adventurous brides-to-be.

At Vera Wang, intricate Degas-inspired designs reinvented the traditional bride courtesy of artful pleats, oversized tulle bows, corset bodices and minty tones for an edgy, more modern spin. Quite frankly, we’d happily get hitched just to whisk one of these confections up the aisle *hint hint*

For the next offering, Kenneth Pool whipped up oodles of fairytale froth for the die-heart romantics among us. The designer's show was a non-stop parade of dramatic ballgowns embellished with ruffles, silk ribbons and twinkling jewels fit for well, a princess *wink*

As for bouquets, La Herrera wins the crown for most inventive creation, thanks to grass-like sprigs (er, is that asparagus?), delicate forget-me-nots and ginormous daisies suitable for a bohemian-style wedding *ahem Kate Moss*

And in the hair? Sparkling slides adorned Herrera’s sleek buns (K-Midd, take note) while the headgear at Vera Wang was nothing short of Gaga-tastic. Genius!

Right, readers, if this hasn't given you the bridal bug, we don’t know what will. Boyfriends, get down on one knee immediately!
