We party with Karl Lagerfeld and Diet Coke in Paris!

08 April 2011

Karl Lagerfeld and Lily Cole

Oh my days! A normal Thursday night for Grazia Daily involves some baked beans, repeated viewings of Channel Four’s The Model Agency, and maybe a nice cup of tea. But last night was no ordinary Thursday, readers. Oh no. Because the fashion Kaiser himself had just finished his latest collaboration with fizzy pop makers supreme, Diet Coke, and invited us to celebrate. Naturally it was never going to be enough to have a simple ‘do’ with a few finger sandwiches – not with the Diet Coke budget - so they chose The Pompidou Centre, an enormous, futuristic art gallery in the middle of Paris as the venue, and then, seeing as the weather was unexpectedly nice that day, held the party on the roof. Let us say, the views were breath-taking.

Decorations? Oh go on then…they commissioned some bigger than life size bottles in the same design as the marvellous ones Karl had created as a limited edition for the brand. Then they invited the great and the good of Paris society, (and a lot of boys who looked just like Baptiste Giabiconi, although we weren’t 100% sure which was the real one) Oh, and shuttled in a few journalists from London to add to the international-fashion-crowd vibe.

Who is that?

What fun we had. Unkle Karl, is of course a devotee of the bubbly beverage, and credits it for his incredible six stone weight loss a few years back. Funnily enough, Karl chose not to drink his refreshments from the bottles he’d so lovingly crafted, but from a Harry Potter style goblet that was held for him on a tray by a butler/manservant who didn’t leave his side all night. Amazing. Back at our dreary old desk this lunchtime we had to pinch ourselves that it really took place and hadn’t all just been a wonderful dream.
