Alistair Carr is the new Pringle Designer!

28 March 2011

Following our recent announcement that Clare Waight Keller has stepped down as designer at Scottish heritage brand, Pringle, we are excited to announce that Alistair Carr, of Balenciaga ready-to-wear will be stepping up to the task. Balenciaga to Pringle? They must be planning a serious fash-over, unless Alistair, who is known for edgy sportswear-influenced-designs is to take a step back from his habitual design aesthetic.

The under-the-radar designer graduated as one of the stand-out students of his year at Central Saint Martins in 2003. During his degree he worked for bespoke corsetiere Mr Pearl – a legendary fashion figure and best friends with Dita Von Teese - where he learned to make corsets for such haute couture brands as Thierry Mugler (as it was in those days) and Christian Dior.

He has also worked for Marni, Cacharel and Chloé. For three seasons, he designed a signature label, which was shown during London Fashion Week before he got too busy working for the big brands. He is a quiet, unassuming personality with a strong penchant for tattoos. According to fashion filmmaker extraordinaire Diane Pernet, whenever he has time off from Balenciaga, he’ll travel back to the UK to add to his collection of body art. Looks like he’ll be able to get even more ink done now he’s going to be coming home to work!
