Earlier this month, Marc Jacobs presented in Paris what was by most accounts one of his best collections yet for Louis Vuitton and the season’s best. But from the ridiculous and utterly unnecessary (and beyond the point!) debate on firstly, Kate Moss smoking on the runway followed closely by the condition of her thighs, we were left wondering what exactly did Marc make of it all?
Well, now we have a good enough idea, thanks to a video posted on Louis Vuitton’s website showing Marc with long-time stylist and collaborator Katie Grand by his side, watching a video of the show and commenting along. This is in fact so genius we would now like to put in our official request for more fashion shows With Designer Commentary, please!
So, what did Marc by Marc by Marc Jacobs think of Mossy showing all the kids how it’s done? ‘She was perfect!’ But, of course she was. Marc actually exclaimed, ‘Aaaand….Madame’, the moment Kate appeared in one of the fantastic gilded elevators. There you have it, haters.
We got more juicy behind-the-scenes comments from the super-duo. Kate hadn’t yet watched the video whereas Mark admitted that he had seen it ‘several times!’ They admired the collection and its subtle but so effective colour palette with Marc saying, ‘given the dark palette…it was a nice way to do colour, not what the show was about but there was plenty in there.’ He loved the brilliant flashes of yellow and cobalt blue and so did we! Talking about the tweed part of the collection he said he heard people calling it ‘the wives! People decided who were the wives and who were the mistress, which is good.’ And observing the unformed elevator assistants, Katie admired, ‘those guys are taking their job very seriously!”
Marc’s favourite look? Number 46 as modelled by Anais Pouliot in a red pailletted snakeskin (python) skirt with a black sweater and a prim white collar. He also described the military precision it took to produce the show, ‘it was so synchronised, the girls had to be on their marks right away otherwise they’d miss their elevator!’ And the moment he sees himself emerge from the elevator to take his bow he giggles, ‘there’s the little devil with the horns coming out of his head from the elevator!’
‘Wow, a lot of work’, Marc and Katie exclaim in unison towards the end. Job very well done, you two!
