In the latest installment of musical chairs at the fashion houses, news reaches us that Vanessa Seward is parting ways with Azzaro. ‘The House of Azzaro and Vanessa Seward are moving forward in different directions,’ the Paris-based brand announced in a statement, confirming rumours that had been swirling for a while.
Seward [above with Karl Lagerfeld] leaves the company with a glowing reputation. The designer helped put Azzaro back on the fashion radar after joining the company in 2002 as first assistant to the founding designer, Loris Azzaro. Following his death a year later, Seward was named creative director and regenerated its glamorous body-hugging gowns during her nine year stint.
The gorgeous eveningwear has since become a major player on the red carpet – lest we forget when Carey Mulligan wore a long navy column dress adorned with a giant Peter Pan collar at the Cannes film festival? And during awards season, Azzaro floor-sweepers got a lot of A-list love, from Emily Blunt at the Critics' Choice Awards to a be-bumped Natalie Portman at the SAGs, while style icons such as Diane Kruger have been longtime fans.
So the question remains, who will be Seward's successor? Let the musical chairs continue!
