Emmanuelle Alt’s plan to move Paris Vogue forward: MORE CLOTHES!

18 March 2011

So, Carine Roitfeld retrospectively proclaimed herself ‘Queen of porno chic’. Emmanuelle Alt has a plan that is no less simple OR cunning to distinguish her era from her predecessor’s – MORE clothes. Talking to WWD, she took the interviewer through the April edition of the mag and pointed out how many more items each model was wearing. Arriving at a page of a model reclining, her blouse open and a nipple in plain sight she said; ‘One boob,’ holding up a finger and flashing a big smile: ‘Otherwise, you don’t recognize it’s French Vogue.’ Well quite.

Anything else you’ve got in mind, Emmanuelle? (gosh, we love her name. Maybe we would call our daughter that. If we had one). ‘It’s important to have something to read,’ she thinks, and to prove it has included a long feature about Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk, with one black-and-white portrait followed by several pages of pure text.

And what about her staff and contributors? ‘I want to have new people working for the magazine,’ Alt said. “I also want to push some young stylists: all the girls who have been trained by French Vogue.’

However, as well as up-and-comers, Alt has roped in plenty of fashion’s big guns like well established stylists Joe McKenna, Camilla Nickerson and Melanie Ward. It all sounds tres bien to us.
