Mossy Wears Margiela, erm, Cellophane

22 February 2011

Ooh, Miss Moss! What shiny, shiny clothes you wear… Grazia Daily assumes we are all in agreement when we say that Dame Kate of Mosskins is one lady who can usually be relied upon to play things pretty chic when it comes to eveningwear. Oui? Good. Black, fitted and short, Mossy has always relied upon her fail-safe night time wardrobe to see her gliding seamlessly from the swankiest parties right through to the Groucho club in the early hours. Until now, that is.

Last night, Kate showcased an impressively shiny outfit at the 10th Birthday Party for AnOther magazine. The one shoulder evening dress by Maison Martin Margiela’s Artisanal collection (a collection of reworked pieces from the designer’s archive, produced in a verrrrry limited, verrrry exclusive number) appears to be made up of a green and gold foil skirt with a transparent, asymmetric top. We are puzzled.

This ensemble, of course, comes in the same week that Vivienne Westwood inadvertently revealed that Kate is planning to design her own wedding dress, telling the Daily Mail ‘I think she's designing it herself…. She has done her own fashion range and she knows about clothes. She knows what she is doing, she doesn't need my help.’

Hmm. So is this Margiela number an indication of what we can expect from the forthcoming Moss/Hince nuptials? Or would the endless rustling of cellophane be too much of a distraction during the ceremony?
