What will Carine 'Queen of Porno Chic' Roitfeld do NEXT?

15 February 2011

Although not at the A/W '11 shows, Carine Roitfeld has not been hiding under a rock (or inside an egg) for the last few weeks. Oh no, she has been finishing off work on a coffee table book of her back catalogue of shoots for posh publishers Rizzoli, and planning her next move.

In an online interview she admitted; I’m not an Internet [girl]. I’m not writing on blogs. I’m not a Facebook girl. Even though there is a fake Facebook with my name, it’s not me. I’m not on Twitter, it’s not me. But I think  . . . the future is the Internet.’ And concludes; ‘It’s very difficult for me to work on the Internet, but maybe I will find a way. I think this is very, very important.’

This last bit threw blog speculation into a frenzy – will Carine’s next project be in print or online? *thrills!*

THEN Nymag managed to fit in a chat with Olivier Zahm, founder of Purple Magazine and Roitfeld’s collaborator on the aforementioned book, at one of the NYFW shows. He asserted that ‘she will start her own magazine,’ when they met him at the Theyskens' Theory show. Zahm didn't know if it would be print or online or both, but suspected it would be print. ‘She's open to anything, and she's the best fashion editor in France now,’ he continued. ‘She will be really deeply missed at Vogue, I'm sure. They will call her back in six months and pray that she comes back.’

How the plot thickens . . . Carine refused to confirm or deny anything clearly for fear of jinxing upcoming projects. What she did say was this – ‘I’ve always been provocative, but what I’m going to do next is a new way of provocation. I did for many years porno chic. I was the queen of porno chic. And I will do something totally different now’

Can’t wait to see what it is!
