Gaga has been flickering on and off our radars in recent months – we believe she’s been holed up in a glitter encrusted recording studio somewhere putting together her second album while naked men in gimp harnesses bring her energy drinks to sip on daintily. (Or something like that). Sooo, one of her first red carpet appearances will be the imminent Grammy Awards and since she’s become rather well known for making her presence known at such events, we’ve already started to speculate about WHAT ON EARTH SHE WILL WEAR?
She has a contract with Armani Privé — who she so famously wore last year — but according to nymag she is likely to wear Mugler in support of her stylist Nicola Formichetti, whose first ready to wear collection for the ‘80’s label will debut this season Paris Fashion Week. He’ll most likely make her a special version of something from the upcoming collection.
We think there are three definite possibilities for the theme. . .
1 - That she will go really sparkly and magical again. OK, by your average red carpet looks, Gaga in Armani Prive was extreme. However, it was an awful lot prettier and less confrontational that some of her other looks – and since Formichetti will have helped broker that deal between Mr Armani and the Lady, he will have helped advise them on what she required.
2 – Traditional Mugler can be described as fierce futuristic. Beyonce was one of the most recent recipients of the original designer’s sartorial finesse – here she appears on stage like a sexual android music machine, and back in his 80’s heyday, Mugler’s characteristic visuals were very structured indeed but with a big emphasis on boobs, derrieres and shoulders. NOT a label for fashion introverts.
3 – Ridiculously gothic and terrifying. So – for his menswear show Nicola Formichetti outlined a dystopian vision of darkness, compete with black face veils, black on black suits of clashing textures and most strikingly, models with full body tattoos. Besides, when you've already decked yourself in raw meat, where you take it next is entirely up to you.
Yikes! What will she pull out of the bag?
