Well wasn’t January a hoot and a half? NAAAAT. There were two things that managed to lure us out of a one way ticket ride to down-in-the-dumps-shire and they were 1: interesting ridonkulous Royal Wedding speculation (just how creepy can it get after regal ‘love sheaths’?) and 2: Prada – and everything Prada related, no matter how tenuously so. Prada clothes, Mrs Prada, Miuccia’s muses, Anna Dello Russo wearing bonkers Prada fur (it’s her new clutch bag replacement, apparently), Prada’s striped gown on True Grit’s mini super-nova Hailee Steinfeld at the SAG awards, etc, etc.
On the bleakest of days, Miuccia, and her exhilaratingly light-hearted formula of colour bands + monkey prints = fashion fun, would bestowe upon us something lovely for the eyes – like the campaign featuring OTM model, Arizona Muse, or the wish-we-were-there spring/summer video - bursting with modern Carmen Miranda sass. And if it wasn’t a visual all-you-eat-buffet then we were transfixed by the Chief-Signora-Of-Style’s wise words in WWD’s latest interview.
And now? Well, today sees the arrival of these simply lovely illustrations, each one a representation of the key ‘Minimal Baroque’ sunglasses for spring. Yes, yes, minimal and baroque aren’t words traditionally used together by the haughtiest of aesthetes, but we all know Miuccia practically invented the word irony. Look closely and it makes sense. Baroque in shape, minimal in decoration, these curly-wurly shades in the season’s clashing block colours are ACE. No wonder so many artistes wanted to devote a little papier and paint to them. And guess what? Prada have officially made February easier to bear too, because the sunglasses are available this month. Awoohoo! Screw the sunshine; we’ll be wearing them no matter what the weather.
