Alessandra Ambrosio: "models are more like businesswomen now"

03 February 2011

Amazing, body-of-a-Goddess Brazilian super, Alessandra Ambrosio, has been interviewed by W Magazine, just ahead of fashion month, although the shows in her native Brazil are already underway. We must say, she sounds like a pretty level headed young lady – the girl whose amazing bod has been perambulating in bras and pants for Victoria’s Secret since 2000, but who also caught the eye of megabrands, Prada, Dolce and Gabbana and Brit boy Giles, and who now mixes and matches power lingerie with high fash, so to speak.  They asked her about what’s changed in her opinion since she started modeling a decade ago, and Alessandra said;

I guess it’s like a real job. When I started, it was a hobby, something fun to do. Before, models had that rock star life and it was all about going to the parties and having that glamorous life, and I think these days, models are more like businesswomen and the whole industry takes it really seriously’

She's right - top models DO earn an absolute packet these days and the bright ones have careers that can go on and on and on, what with starting their own underwear/flip flop/dress ranges or becoming presenters and actresses.

Then they pondered whether there is something in the water at Victoria’s Secret with so many models having babies and if she’d spoken to Miranda Kerr or Doutzen Kroes since they gave birth, she replied;

‘No, I sent emails to them congratulating them. You know, I have a kid of my own, and I know how busy it is, the first weeks and the first month. It’s just good for them to concentrate on their baby. So I’ve seen pictures, and I’ve sent emails congratulating them. I can’t wait to meet the babies.

And if Alessandra herself would like another little one?I don’t know. I don’t really plan that. [Her daughter Anja] came unplanned, and I think that’s the way it is with me. I like it as a surprise.’

Awww. She sounds so nice and normal. THEN they asked her about her naughty vices, the best thing she could come up with was – ‘I love Cheetos, those hot, spicy kind. And chocolate. Every time I’m in the airport I’m buying Cheetos and eating them on the airplane.’ Hmm, aren’t they the American version of Wotsits? Hmmm.
