We've got to hand it to jewellery designer Alexis Bittar - he certainly knows how to pick 'em. House models, that is. Last year his brilliant ad campaign starred none other than ultimate 80's glamourpuss Joan Collins, posters of which were liberally plastered across New York (and, ultimately, stolen in rather large quantities). And now Bittar has signed another Grazia Daily favourite - Lauren Hutton.
Hutton is (once again) very much the woman of the moment - the original sporty 80's blond who pioneered the fashionable tooth gap, is SO completely the look for Spring 2011 it's uncanny. Hutton is our style icon du jour - you only have to google images of her in American Gigolo to see how to wear this season's flares. Now 67, the still-stunning model-turned-actress-turned-photographer-turned-motorbike-enthusiast wears a very-now minimalist white tuxedo to offset Bittar's organic, sculptural pieces, in black and white portraits by artist and photographer Jack Pierson.
Bittar recently received the CFDA Accessory Designer of the Year award, and not surprisingly, Hutton is also a big fan; 'His jewelry is like art and still doesn’t look like anything I have ever seen.' The pair first met two decades ago when Bittar was still selling his designs from a stall out on the street in New York. Hutton remembers him as 'This handsome and energetic kid, so young you couldn’t believe he actually designed it'. It's taken twenty years for the pair to come together again, but we think the results were worth the wait. [WWD, subscription required]
