Pre-Fall collections PART FIVE!

31 January 2011

Even though the entire couture and menswear weeks have been and gone and now the next ready to wear collections are in sight – New York fashion week starts in less that two weeks, peeps! – the last of the Pre-Fall collections have only just come out. We don’t need any other reason than that to start sharing with you the greatness of the Acne, (above) John Galliano and Matthew Williamson pre-collections.

Sweedish-Streetwear-Gods Acne have sent out one of the most beautiful set of shots we’ve ever seen, to promote their pre-collection as a lookbook. They were photographed by Acne's designer/founder Jonny Johansson, and star up-and-coming super (and daughter of rock star Annie)Tali Lennox. Wow! As usual, Acne are presenting a pared down collection, evolving their own DNA rather than submitting wholly to one trend or another. We particularly like these jumbo trousers and top, and this pink and orange shift – hitting more than one or two of S/S ‘11’s trends on the head there. In fact, there isn't much there that we wouldn’t happily wear.

Apparently, John Galliano hasn’t shown a pre-fall collection in two years, but he returned this season with brilliant Seventies styling in tow. With a colour palette of aubergine purple, acid lime and turquoise, we love these slouchily draped wrap tops and dresses over the high boots, which look inviting to wear just as they are, no adjustments necessary.

Lastly our beady eyes were caught by the very grown up and sophisticated collection by Matthew Williamson. He has gone for short short lengths – miniskirts, leather shorts and this brilliantly spangled evening dress, but the collection feels super modern with digital prints and restrained draping on the body con dresses. LAHve-ley!
