Jean Paul Gaultier’s bride is a girly male model!

28 January 2011

In accordance with the strict tradition, JPG’s haute couture show closed (ok, it was last look but one, as there was also a cancan dancer) with a solemn looking bride. In a slight change from protocol though, the model wearing the amazing frothy gown and veil was in fact . . . a boy! Oh yes. We all remember Jean Paul’s days as presenter of mucky late night telly, Euro Trash, and it doesn’t surprise us that the rebellious designer is up to his gender bending antics. Plus, we have also heard quite a lot about Riccardo Tisci’s transgender muse, Lea T over at Givenchy, so it is clearly a trend in the making.

What does surprise us HOW BLIMMIN’ BEAUTIFUL that model boy is. If that’s what he looks like as a woman, then surely he must look quite out of place when dressed as a boy? Well, handily for us, JPG also used him in his menswear show last week so we can compare and contrast the looks. Hmm, still pretty feminine. 19 year old Andrej Pejic has a Croatian dad and his mother is Serbian. He was born in Bosnia and his family fled as refugees to Australia. He’s been modelling on the international scene for about six months and has already been admired by the lenses of Steven Meisel and Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott

As well as the Gaultier menswear and couture shows, the designer has picked him for his campaign shots too, and according to, so has Marc Jacobs for his Marc by Marc Jacobs ads. These were shot recently in Marrakech by Juergen Teller, along with female model Ginta Lapina, who is said to be the spitting image of Adrej. Boy meets girls meets massive career!
