FIRST LOOK: Christian Lacroix’s high street collection for Desigual!

24 January 2011

Exciting news has reached Grazia Towers: Christian Lacroix is back! Although he won’t be showing at Paris haute couture - which kicks off today, people! - the legendary French designer has teamed up with Barcelona-based brand, Desigual, to create a (slightly more affordable) capsule collection.

Since closing the doors on his fashion house in 2009, Lacroix has been busy designing coins for Monnaie de Paris, uniforms for Air France and costumes for German operas (yes, really), but planet fashion has missed his luxurious creations. So hurrah! that at last, us mere mortals can get our mitts on them via his 30-piece line, titled ‘Desigual by Monsieur Lacroix’. And although the ex-couturier lost the rights to design under his own name, this latest collaboration sounds like the perfect match...

A sneak preview of Desigual by Monsieur Lacroix

The Spanish high street chain is known for its ‘happy clothes’ in a kaleidoscope of vibrant brights and Lacroix gushes about the moment he spotted a girl wearing Desigual. It was ‘love at first sight’, he says, due to the ‘scorching, revitalising, radiating Mediterranean colours’ of her outfit - an 'explosion of patchwork' under the 'elegant' French sky. Grazia Daily can't be sure how the collection will look against Blighty's somewhat less-romantic grey clouds but we're mightily pleased to hear Lacroix has found a new way to channel his trademark decadence. The full range of urban jackets, skirts and lingerie will land later this year, with a larger collection set to launch for S/S ‘12.

And Desigual’s creative team is equally delighted with the union, saying, ‘it is all about uniting creativities; brains and hearts working together. But as in any relationship, there is always a beginning...Now Desigual and Monsieur Lacroix have fallen in love.’ Aw, it’s enough to melt even the hardest of fashion hearts... []
